Pat Badani is a media artist, writer and researcher who explores notions of utopia and dystopia through emergent art practices. Her artworks have been showcased in international festivals and symposia: ISEA; Transmediale; New Forms Festival; ELO (Electronic Literature Organization); FILE; Festival Internacional de la Imagen; Currents; Art Souterrain; Balance-Unbalance; and in venues such as Espacio Fundación Telefónica, Argentina; New York Hall of Science, USA; Guggenheim Gallery Chapman University, USA; Tarble Arts Center-Museum, USA; Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts, USA; UIUC iSpace Gallery, USA; Musée de Bas Saint Laurent, Canada; NSCAD Anna Lenowens Gallery, Canada; Canadian Cultural Center, France; Maison de L’Amerique Latine, France; FRAC Corsica, France; Museo de Arte Moderno, Mexico; Museo Universitario del Chopo, Mexico; Museo de Monterrey, Mexico; MECAD\Media Centre of Art & Design, Spain; to name a few. She has received over twenty awards and commissions including a media arts research-creation grant from the Canada Council for the Arts for her project “Where are you from?_Stories” exploring the utopian imagination in human migration; support from the “Robert Heinecken Trust Fund” for her project “Al Grano” investigating the dystopian impact of GMO corn on maize in Mexico; a DCASE award, and a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship at MacDowell Colony for her project “Comestible” in which she surveys dietic utopias/dystopias in contemporary food-diets. Badani has been nominated for two merit awards, in 2018 she was nominated for an AWAW (Anonymous Was A Woman Award) recognizing women of vision in the U.S.A.; and in 2010 she was nominated for an Art Matters Fellowship. In 2011 her work was selected and registered on Creative Capital’s artists to watch list “On Our Radar.” Badani has participated in conferences with her essays and talks in over 15 countries. Essays and reviews examining her works have been published in three languages in international solo and group exhibition catalogues, in thematic anthologies, and in journals.

Badani’s academic trajectory include full-time faculty at Illinois State University (School of Art), and at Colombia College Chicago (Interdisciplinary Arts). As lecturer she has participated in discussions hosted at: The New School (N.Y.); NYU Steinhardt School of Culture (N.Y.); Pratt Institute (N.Y.); Northwestern University (Chicago); UIC (Chicago); UIUC (Urbana- Champaign); University of Toronto; Concordia University (Montreal); Simon Frazer University (Vancouver); iDAT Plymouth University (U.K.); University of Sydney (Australia); Institute of Cultural Studies ZHdK Zurich (Switzerland); Kungl. Badani is past Editor-in-Chief of “Media-N, Journal of the New Media Caucus” (USA), and Lead Editor of “Artelogie” EHESS (France). Having served as Executive Board of Directors Officer with the New Media Caucus (USA) between 2010 and 2016, she currently serves in the board of directors of ISEA (International Symposium on Electronic Art) overseeing the continuation of the annual symposia.

--Pat Badani is a Canadian-American artist, researcher, writer, and editor, born in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
--Education: MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (U.S.A). BFA from the University of Alberta (Canada).
--She works mostly out of Chicago (USA). She has previously lived and worked in Argentina, Peru, Canada, and France, and she has travelled to exhibit and/or talk about her work in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Canada, the USA, England, Ireland, France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, Greece, Australia, Turkey, South Africa, and China.
