About
Rejane Cantoni is a Brazilian artist and researcher whose practice, spanning forty years, investigates the intersection of art, science, and technology. Her formative work includes a 1988 telematic transmission between São Paulo and Pittsburgh via SSTV, and early research in virtual reality and algorithmic systems. She studied Information Systems at the University of Geneva (1994–1996), holds a PhD in Communication and Semiotics from PUC-SP (2001), and completed two post-doctoral research periods at USP (2007–2009; 2014–2015). She studied under Hans-Joachim Koellreutter, a pioneer of Brazilian electronic music, and Décio Pignatari, a founder of concrete poetry.
Her interactive installations have been presented at ZKM, Ars Electronica, the National Art Museum of China, MOLAA, STRP, The Creators Project, and Itaú Cultural. Works in permanent collections include OP_ERA: Sonic Dimension (ZKM and Itaú Cultural, 2005), SPEAK/FALA (Itaú Cultural, 2008), and SWING (MOLAA, 2023; acquired for the permanent collection, 2025). She has received the VIDA 13.2 Prize, the Sergio Motta Prize, and a PRIX Ars Electronica Honorary Mention.
She served as Advisory Board Member at the Interplanetary Initiative, Arizona State University (2020–2025), and currently serves as Advisory Committee Member at MediaLab, Fundação Itaú. MUSICAS is the natural continuation of her forty-year research.
