The installation is minimal: one large trackball and a dual projection screen. 6 speakers.
Descriptions & Essays
The project takes on two forms - the installation in an old mine in Dortmund: Zeche Zollern II/IV and the online version. The site-specific installation is experiential with sound taking on an important role. Spatialized sound is triggered by movement through the physical space and by interacting with the projected tensile structures. The navigation of the fluidiom fabric is limited to viewing the data hidden in the topology as one is timed and mining path traced. The tracing of the audience in space is constant while new data (sounds, digital video and stills) being ingested by the "body" while in therenovated mine space. Online, people will be able to create their own databody composed of tensile shapes they choose and assemble. The databodies will grow and develop autonomously. There are seven levels to this Ruhr Body. The participant descends through the fluidiom fabrics filled with data that is continuously uptdated. The data is a mixture of images from coal mines of the industrial era, medical imaging of the body and sounds. the deeper one mines, the more layered the date, the less time there is to mine through the data. One has a total of 333 seconds to mine this databody and receives only fragments of words, images and sounds. (Victoria Vesna)
