Extensions (1999-2000) was my contribution to a group project called "Reaching", which set out to look at networking as a metaphor for various ways of communicating or of "reaching" from one point or person to another. The other artists were Susan Turner and Dale Amundson. This project has been discontinued but Extensions can be viewed as a stand-alone site. It is an extended Java applet which looks at the metaphor of "reaching" through forms that science and art have created for imaging and imagining the relationship between earth and sky. It makes use of NASA radio telescope images of places on earth and space, videos of weather maps and hurricane systems, and images of related art works. I wrote all the software for this site using Java and C.
