"make-A-move" is a site-specific, responsive, screen-based installation involving two encased flat screens, digital animation, software design, and physical interaction. Two automated portraits - a female and a male subject photographed by the artist - react to the movements of passersby. When visitors walk in front of the two screens, the portraits uncannily follow them with their eyes. Badani invests the work with her apprehension of (and about) personal space, privacy and surveillance, and playfully invites participants to ‘make a move’ thereby triggering a game of cause and effect between the participant and the automated gaze. The work was produced during a residency at Agence TOPO, in co-production with Art Souterrain, Montreal. The artist’s presence for the opening of the exhibition and for an artist talk at Agence TOPO was made possible (in part) thanks to the Canada Council for the Arts. The exhibition and lecture were a satellite event to the Media Art History Conference held concurrently at Concordia University and organized by Hexagram.
Exhibition opening: Agence TOPO, Thursday, November 5th – at 6:00PM
Artist Talk: Agence TOPO, Saturday, November 7th – at 6:00PM
