A dynamic sculpture inspired by the volume and behavior of an idealized cloud. Made from polycarbonate tiles that can fade between transparent and opaque states, its patterns are transformed periodically by real time weather data from around the world. An installation in the San José International Airport with collaborators Dan Goods of NASA's JPL, and Nik Hafermaas of Art Center College of Design.
In 2007, the City of San José's Public Art Program sent out a call for qualifications to create the centerpiece artwork for the airport. Out of over 100 applicants, the team of Dan, Nik, and Aaron was selected. The eCLOUD concept was presented several months later and approved. This piece is part of the Art & Technology program at the airport which was developed by Gorbet+Banerjee, and managed by Mary Rubin at the City of San José Office of Cultural Affairs.
