This book is a testimony of the International Colloquium "Educating in Audiovisual Media. Histories and Futures, which took place at the Espacio Fundación Telefónica in Buenos Aires at the end of 2012, and whose proposal consisted in thinking about film studies -and, in more general terms, audiovisual studies- over time, in the current situation and its future prospects, in relation to the different instances of professional training. This is quite a challenge for a field that has been little researched in its historical development, especially considering the specificity of each of its stages: from the moments when learning consisted of practice in the field, to the constitution of a scene where formal education has taken charge of the subject and created a complex training offer. At present, the challenges have become more complex due to the definitive disappearance of analogical supports and their replacement by technologies based on digitalization, which has blurred some limits, created new professions and demands new knowledge. Contents: I. Cinema becomes school - The teaching of cinema in universities. A proposal of history and the impacts of digital technology, Luciana Rodrigues - Critical analysis of film schools in Argentina. - Dilemmas between theory and practice, Rodolfo Hermida. - A historical perspective on university film studies and experimental film in the United States in the 1960s and 1970s, Michael Zryd. II. Scenes of instruction in Latin America - Two educational experiences around audiovisual media. Origin, proposals and achievements. Cases of outstanding graduates, Eduardo Feller. - Universidad del Cine, a school that produces or a production company that teaches: the dilemma of a different institution, Mario Santos. - Education and media. A history, Fabián Hofman. Uruguay: The (audiovisual) utopia become a reality... and now? - From utopia to reality, Esteban Schroeder. - Film education in Uruguay, Sergio Miranda. - Film education in the new audiovisual universe, Pablo Rovito. ÁTICO: Training from creation, Germán Rey. III. Technological arts. From the new media to the post-virtual. Audiovisual education between the “end of mass media” and the emergence of “new media”, Mario Carlón. - Multimedia Creation (Specialization): an adventure from science to art, Myriam Luisa Díaz Moyano. - Cinema of the “postubo” in the era of the end of the virtual, Giselle Beiguelman.
