Site-specific light installation
The light installation 'mission of art' is a temporary intervention on the façade of the building of the Akademie der Künste [Academy of Arts] in Berlin, for the occasion of the opening of the Academy's new location on Pariser Platz (Brandenburg Gate). Members of the Academy were invited to contribute a word each for the feed of a 4m-high light stick equipped with super-bright white LEDs.
Letters and words are produced on the retina of the observers as after-images and, to a viewer in motion, they seem to lay as an all-over in front of the glass façade of the Academy, the surroundings of the Pariser Platz and in front of the "sky over Berlin".
Analogous to an advertising billboard in the urban space, the installation is designed for visibility in the evening.
