The object 'MOCKUP MODEL' is based on the visualization of a geometric mystery: the Klein bottle. The mathematical concept of the Klein bottle may be conceived as a spatial variant of the Möbius strip. As an imperfect three-dimensional representation of a four-dimensional geometric object, it visualizes abstract problems independently of physical facts, and creates a translation from the unique reality of mathematics into the world of perception. The Klein bottle is, in fact, a surface. Curved as self-penetrating, it knows no inside and no outside, no beginning and no end. It is an endless surface and thus a topological metaphor on questions of inside and outside, as well as questions on the construction of reality and of perception at the intersection of the virtual and the real.
'MOCKUP MODEL' is both materialized mediality and cult object. With its 23 carat gold-leaf surface it has the appearance of an (archeological) cult artefact. The technique of gold plating makes the object glisten in matte and ensures almost no mirroring. 'MOCKUP MODEL' remains with itself and points to the self-referential system of a neverending surface.
For 'MOCKUP MODEL 2,' however, the external world is explicitly incorporated into the logic of the object. Because of its chrome-plated surface, the printed Klein bottle operates as a three-dimensional mirror. The surrounding space is displayed anamorphically and rendered dynamic. Depending on the observer's position, the perspective focal point appears to be pulled over itself.
